London for the First Time.

Man. I had no idea how behind I was with posting photos!
These photos were all taken at the end of June/beginning of July 2011 when I gleefully flew 4,000 miles to be with my new love in London.

It was a whirlwind week of art, food, history, and romance that ended with me flying back to Nashville with a overflowing heart and a sparkly engagement ring!

There is so much in London. It’s completely overwhelming. My husband has lived here 11 years and is still blown away by how much there is to see and do.

I present to you, my three weeks experiencing it all for the first time…

Tralfagar Square

Charing Cross

Somerset House

Strolling along the Thames

Battersea Power Station and Park

Millenium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral

Quite the view from the top!

The Amazing Lloyd’s Building (or the “Sonic the Hedgehog” building if you are me)

The Gherkin

The Monument to the Great Fire of London 1666

Various Sculptures…

Lily Cole on a horse outside of St. Pancras…for some reason?

Tate Britain Museum/V&A/British Museum/Museum of Natural History

I want this chandelier. I must must must have it.

Is is weird that I even want to hug taxidermy sheep?

St. Katherine’s Dock

Deathcab Show in Brixton!

The Tower of London

The Shard (in progress)

Buckingham Palace

Mr. Sunglasses man.

Westminster Abbey

The Palace of Westminster (“Big Ben” is actually the name of the BELL inside the clock tower, not the clock)

Stonehenge !!!!!!!!!!!! (1.5 hours outside of London)

You should go to London. It’s rad in more ways that I can ever explain to you. Just go.

Need a Pint? Maybe something a bit more mature?
Down the street from our flat in Clapham…

They’ve got you covered!

Lovely collection of photos and memories. Thanks so much for sharing them and reminding me of summer in London. I’ve missed it (not lived there in many years, now) All the interesting things that make me smile without having to deal with the hastle of the traffic and underground. Thanks so much πŸ˜‰

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 7:50 PM

That is so great to hear! I’ve just fallen madly and hopelessly in love with the UK.

  15. Andrew Thomas February 6, 2012 / 7:41 PM

I feel shamed! I have lived in and around London for all of my 32 years and haven’t done half of that. I suppose you only do it when on a timescale. Love the pictures and love the fact you love London.

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 7:49 PM

Well, since I’ve moved here most of my photos have been from my travels around the UK and less London-y, but I’ve been taking my camera out with me more, so I plan to keep capturing the magic!

  16. Ann Jasmine February 6, 2012 / 8:27 PM

I love your photos. They look amazing – all the colours just pop out!

  18. Dyke in disguise February 6, 2012 / 8:39 PM

I’ve been in London almost two years ago for the first time and I fell in love with her because of the very magical atmosphere.
The things that impressed me most were the Tate Britain Museum, Westminster Abbey and the Thames at 5 am. And also Camden shops, yes.

    Your photos are so beautiful!

[I’m sorry for my bad English.]

  19. hmdawson11 February 6, 2012 / 8:45 PM

I live in London and you’ve taken some photos of some lovely places I knew nothing about! Although I’ve not been here that long! I’m definitely visiting St. Katherine’s Docks soon. Congratulations on the engagement.

  22. st00ge February 6, 2012 / 9:13 PM

What kind of camera? The pictures are really nice.

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 9:21 PM

Olympus EPL-1. It’s really fun to shoot with. Light weight, and very user friendly. And obviously, the photos turn out nicely! I ❀ my camera. I'm ready to explore some new lenses though!

      • st00ge February 9, 2012 / 8:12 PM

My brother is a lens expert. I’ll have to ask him when i see him.

  23. The Hook February 6, 2012 / 9:18 PM

  25. meandmytwoleftfeet February 6, 2012 / 9:30 PM

I’m a London local and I still love it as much as a tourist would!!

Congratulations by the way too xx

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 9:32 PM

Thanks! I love taking them. You know, I haven’t actually gone into Westminster Abbey yet! I’m waiting for my parents to visit in a few months. VERY excited!

  26. deckshoes February 6, 2012 / 9:46 PM

Oh wow, your photos look as though it’s always sunny in England :-)! St. Katharine Docks would always be my favourite – drove our boat to London and stayed there for a few days in 2007 for our honeymoon (we live in the south east, close to Windsor). Cheers!

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 9:53 PM

I swear it was sunny and beautiful the entire time I was visiting! I’m seeing the cold and grey everyone moans about now that I live here! πŸ˜‰

  27. Red Toenails February 6, 2012 / 9:50 PM

Great stuff, girl! I’m going to Italy this November so I’m too excited! Great blog.

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 9:51 PM

  28. deanhogarth February 6, 2012 / 9:59 PM

The photos you’ve taken are really good, some are Great! I love the thistle shot that you captured. Also, I’ve both worked and been entertained in London but I didn’t quite realise that there were so many sculptures.
Fantastic capture of our great Capital. Thank you.

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 10:06 PM

There are hundreds! Especially if you walk along the Thames!

  29. Greenhorn Living February 6, 2012 / 10:00 PM

Found your site from Freshly Pressed and am so happy with the accident! Beautiful images and content that I could’ve written (because I relate to it and share your sense of humor and wonder, not because I have been or have such beautiful images, etc haha). I actually have a San Diego for the first time post scheduled later this week on my blog and am ready to go check out London soon! πŸ™‚

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 10:05 PM

So sweet of you to say! I’ve really just started my journey as a traveler and photographer…we shall see where it takes me!

  30. pezcita February 6, 2012 / 10:00 PM

How did you manage to get such great pictures inside those museums?

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 10:03 PM

Luck! I took hundreds of photos in those museums and these are really the best ones. I had a ton of lighting issues. I’m still a beginner at photography, with zero equipment and basic knowledge so I often have problems with low light.

  31. J.L. Shenstone February 6, 2012 / 10:08 PM

thanks for sharing your photo’s (they’re lovely) and the beautiful art work you saw. i can’t wait to see London πŸ™‚

  34. ryoko861 February 6, 2012 / 10:39 PM

I am so jealous! I SO wish I could live in England. Because of it’s beauty. I’ve always love Great Britain, even from a young age. I like to think that I’m a Brit stuck in an American body.

You’re pictures are fantastic! Thank you for sharing them!

Congratulations on your engagement! You’re very lucky!

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 10:42 PM

  36. joehoover February 6, 2012 / 10:56 PM

  37. spamfred February 6, 2012 / 11:12 PM

Great pictures! I’ve lived 30mins from London my whole life and did not know that fact about Big Ben – you learn something new every day πŸ™‚

    Oh and congratulations!

  38. I say, do you follow? February 6, 2012 / 11:23 PM

Fantastic array of photos! London is such a brilliant city and makes me proud to be English. I love hearing how good a time tourists and such like have when they visit the city. Although you’ve got to understand that there is a lot more to the United Kingdom than just London!
And those sculptures in the sand by the Thames, did you do them yourself? Or just lucky happen-chance? Never seen anything like that on the banks of the river before!

    • gimmeyummy February 6, 2012 / 11:26 PM

If you go back on my blog, there are tons of posts from around the UK πŸ˜‰

    3. I adored London (just came back), but you’ve convinced me I need to go back there in the summer. Just maybe not this summer, as I don’t think I could handle the Olympics crowds!

    • gimmeyummy February 7, 2012 / 12:02 AM

Thank you!! I am not looking forward to the Olympic insanity. 😦

  94. Isabel Costello February 7, 2012 / 3:24 PM

Gorgeous pictures of our great city – I grew up near Stonehenge in Wiltshire and have lived in London for half of my life, and I know I will never tire of it. Even in winter and horrible weather, there is always so much going on here and so many interesting people to share it with. It’s really lovely to hear that visitors get such a kick out of coming here (like I do going to NY). The two of you make a beautiful couple, congratulations on your engagement – I wonder where you’ll end up living?!

    • gimmeyummy February 7, 2012 / 7:04 PM

      We live in Clapham! πŸ˜‰

  95. I Made You A Mixtape February 7, 2012 / 4:33 PM sweet. enjoyed looking at your pictures- of the summer London we all love- but cannot fathom ever seeing again as I look out of the window to the cold grey mush….lol. Congratulations, will you now become a Londoner as well?

    • gimmeyummy February 7, 2012 / 7:04 PM

  97. Eagle-Eyed Editor February 7, 2012 / 5:03 PM

Wonderful pictures. They bring back many memories for me, since I’ve had the chance to visit London a few times and enjoyed it every time. My favorite memories are Harrods and taking the Buckingham Palace tour….something I thought I’d never be able to do in my lifetime! And congrats on your engagement. May you both have a long and amazing life together. πŸ™‚

    • gimmeyummy February 8, 2012 / 12:05 AM

Awesome pictures. Brought me back to the month and a half I lived out there for summer school. The only thing missing was pictures of the tube, Mind The Gap.

  116. pnwauthor February 8, 2012 / 2:36 AM

Judging from these photos looks like you had a splendid time in London. I was in London in 1991 and didn’t see half of what you saw. Though I did have a good time.

  117. JR February 8, 2012 / 4:02 AM

I just spent four months living/working in London, and absolutely fell in love. These photos bring back so many wonderful memories. They are beautifully taken, too.
However, I did not see that statue of the women looking to be in some sort of water? And the woman on the ledge of a fountain with a paper and pen. I really wish I could have seen that! I think I would have loved it, and would have been my favorite statue. Where were those at in London?
Thanks for the post, and congrats on the engagement. What a dream come true to get engaged in London!

    • gimmeyummy February 8, 2012 / 1:51 PM

That fountain was tucked away in a back alley in a residential area right on the Thames by past Tower Bridge. We just sort of stumbled upon it!

      • Psychic Witness February 8, 2012 / 1:56 PM

That’s one of the best things about London. There is so much to see and do. So much history. The architecture is incredible. New York City seems bland in comparison. Don’t get me wrongi, I like living in NYC. The theatre district of both cities is comparable. But London has so many more attractions to offer.

  118. bmj2k February 8, 2012 / 5:18 AM

I remember much of that from my visit there, but so much has changed in 10 years.
And your pictures are so much better composed than mine. Nice stuff!

  119. Little London Observationist February 8, 2012 / 8:32 AM

Wow, awesome pics. I’ve lived in this city for about five years now and it still never fails to amaze me. There’s so much to do and explore. It’s an incredible place to live. You managed to see quite a bit!

I am going to London for the first time on Saturday and you just got me really really excited! If you only had one weekend to spend in London what would you recommend seeing?

ps The story of your engagement is heartwarming and your ring is absolutely stunning!

    • gimmeyummy February 9, 2012 / 1:14 AM

Hmmmm that’s tough. Well, the museums are all free, which is AMAZING. I’d say the V&A is definitely worth the trip! Maybe take a stroll along the Thames and see all the bridges, sculptures, etc. Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Camden Town…There is SO MUCH to do. I wish you luck deciding!

    • Cool Your Jets IV February 9, 2012 / 12:58 PM

      I would do this…

Take the tube to London Bridge and visit Borough Market (arrive for 10am as its very very busy) walk around the market, which is a foodies haven. Whilst there, buy some fresh oysters and some prosecco and go sit in the grounds of Southwark Cathdral. From there head west along the river thames and stop off at Tate (free art gallery, stunning building) and from there you could cross the river to take in St Pauls Cathedral…

Come south again and continue along the river and you will come to South Bank which is worth seeing, very atmospheric, book sellers, skate boarders and London Eye.

Cross Hungerford bridge and check out Gordons Wine Bar for a glass of Sherry or Port before heading to Trafalgar Square, then into Soho and then Covent Garden, then, then – theres so much – have a wicked time and contact me if you want any more tips – I live here!

  142. joahnadiyosa February 9, 2012 / 1:09 AM

Wow! With the photos you shared here made me wanna go to London now! And oh… congratulations! It’s more than a perfect vacay for sure. πŸ™‚

Great pics – I too love London (live 2 hours away in Suffolk) If you’ve read Dickens you can create a wonderful tour around central London visiting [most] of the places in his books from centuries ago.

  149. mrben09 February 9, 2012 / 11:41 AM

I have lived in London most of my life, and this post has taught me 2 things.

    1. You can get to the top of St Pauls.
    2. There is an interesting tower thing outside of CharingX. My work colleague was there last night, and missed it as well.

It’s really interesting to see London through an outsiders eyes.

    Great post!
